KCCAM “Kids Fishing Day” Deemed a Success

 Twenty-six children were registered for the first ever KCCAM "Kids Fishing Day" at the Edina Country Club on Saturday, June 9th.
Youngsters enjoyed beautiful weather and many were successful in their endeavors.  Following a meal provided by the Knox County Coalition Against Meth, President Robert Becker announced the winners. Fishing poles and equipment were awarded to each winner.
First place was awarded to Tyler Walton, age 14, with a 4 lb 1 oz bass.  Leann Nevin’s (age 12) 1 lb 10 oz bass took second place.  Third place was awarded to Andrew Howe, age 4, with a 1 lb 6 oz catfish.  There was a tie for fourth place between Rick Hayes, age 14, and Hayden Miller, age 7.  Hayes’ fish was a 1 lb 2 oz bass and Miller’s a catfish of the same size.  A coin was flipped to determine the winner, which was Rick Hayes.  However, Hayes was generous in offering the younger fisherman his prize. 
According to Becker, the Meth Coalition plans to organize another fishing day, next year, in hopes that even more families will take an interest in participating.  The Coalition appreciates the support of the local businesses and organizations that donated for the event.  Upcoming events planned by KCCAM include: sand pit volleyball in June, a band concert in July and a pool party in August.
The Knox County Coalition Against Meth (KCCAM) seeks to reduce substance abuse among youth in Knox County by increasing awareness of drug us and its consequences, mobilizing the community against the effects of substance abuse, and building assets in the lives of youth.
