2007 Knox County 4-H/FFA Fair Special Awards
Herdsman awards are presented to 4-H/FFA members who exhibit willingness to help others, good sportsmanship, keep the alley and stall area clean and possess a positive attitude.
The Sheep trophy is sponsored by L.P. “Pete Mayfield, Presiding County Commissioner and is awarded to Riley Poston of the County Liners 4-H Club.
The Beef Herdsman award is sponsored by Mike McGinnis, Eastern District County Commissioner and is awarded to Gracie Hunziker of the South Side Roadrunners 4-H Club.
The Swine Herdsmen award is sponsored by Terry Marble, Western District County Commissioner and is awarded to Andrew Hustead of the Colony 4-H Club.
Dairy Herdsman award is sponsored by Heartland Dairy and is awarded to Ben of Heartland.
Goat Herdsman award is sponsored by Mike Kite, Knox County sheriff and is awarded to Katelyn Stauffer of the South Side Roadrunners 4-H Club.
Edith Musick of Edith’s Tax Service sponsors the Clean Cage Coop Award for the poultry and rabbit division at our fair. The recipient of this award must exhibit the willingness to help others, good sportsmanship, a positive attitude and keep the cage/coop clean at all times. This year’s winner of the Edith Musick Clean Cage/Coop award goes to Dana Hamlin of the Liberty Leaders 4-H Club.
Through the generous contribution of Delmar and Sonjia Strange a $50.00 savings bond will be awarded to a member 12 years of age or younger who exhibited in the Art Hall. The recipient of this award is selected through a drawing. This year’s winner of the Delmar and Sonjia Strange Savings bond goes to Nat Harder of the South Side Roadrunners 4-H Club.
In memory of their son Chad – Bill and Roslyn baker present a Swine exhibitor with a $75 saving bond. The recipient of the bond is determined by a drawing. Other bond winners for the current fair year are not eligible. This year’s winner is Garyn Miller of the Colony 4-H Club.
A $50 saving bond is presented to a male member 12 years of age and younger and a female member 12 years of age and under through a drawing. In order to be eligible for the drawing these individuals must have shown livestock at this year’s fair. Previous winners are not eligible. This bond is made possible through supporters of Knox County youth and livestock. This year’s winners are Lauren Dale of the Colony 4-H Club and Andrew Hunolt of the County Liners 4-H Club.
A $50 saving bond is presented to a first year 4-H or FFA member who has shown livestock at this year’s fair. Jack and Nancy Reardon sponsor this bond. This year’s bond is awarded to Hannah Mason of the Liberty Leaders 4-H Club.
4-J members presented demonstrations throughout the fair. Through the generous contribution of the Citizens Bank of Edina one of the demonstrators will receive a $100 savings bond. The recipient of the bond is determined by a drawing. Beth Strange from the Citizens Bank of Edina is here this evening to present each of the demonstrators with a blue ribbon and the lucky winner of the $100 Savings bond goes to Alex Hanlin of the County Liners 4-H Club.
The family of J.T. Early sponsors a savings bond in his memory. This bond is awarded to a member who exhibits the Champion Angus or Angus Cross Steer. This year’s recipient is Brady James of the County Liners 4-H Club.
Jim Pinson contributes a cash donation and a plaque to the exhibitor of the Knox County Home Raised Steer. The Champion is determined based on a point system. This year’s recipient of the Knox County Homes Raised Steer is Brady James of the County Liners 4-H Club.
The Baker Estate has established a $50 Savings bond in memory of George and Ester Baker. George and ester Baker farmed in the Knox City area for many years. They believed is hard word, Angus cattle and Knox County’s youth. 4-H and FFA members who currently exhibit Angus or Angus Cross cattle were placed in a drawing for the saving bond. This year’s recipient of the George and Ester Baker Memorial Savings Bond is Lauren Dale of the Colony 4-H Club.
The Eyman Sportsmanship Saving Bond is made possible by Bill and Rosalyn Eyman of Knox City, MO. Any bonafide 4-H or FFA member who has an exhibit at the Knox County 4-H/FFA Fair is eligible for this award. The selection of the award is based on evaluation of the 4-H and FFA members who have done the best with what he/she has to work with. This could very likely include a white ribbon exhibit, but a blue ribbon boy or girl who displays qualities in the following areas:
Have done the best with what he/she has to work with,
Sportsmanship and courtesy during the fair,
Enthusiasm of the individual during the fair,
Friendliness, pleasant attitude during the fair.
This year’s recipient is currently enrolled in Swine, Clothing, Food Preservation and Gardening. This is her 10th year as a member of the Colony 4-H Club. She is the daughter of Alan and Twilla See of Rutledge, MO. Emily See is the 2007 recipient of the Eyman Sportsmanship Award.
