USDA Rural Development Provides $92,000 to University of Missouri Greenley Research Center for New Research Plot Combine

On August 2, 2007, USDA Rural Development presented the University of Missouri, Greenley Research Center with a mock check for $92,000 to assist in the purchase of a new research plot combine.  These funds are through the Rural Business Enterprise Grant program.  The balance of the funding for the $202,500 project is being provided by the University of Missouri.  This presentation was part of the 30th annual field day at the Greenley Research Center. 
U.S. Senator Kit Bond stated" These government funds will help enhance the ability of the Greenley Research team to provide important information to agricultural producers and businesses throughout Missouri."
"This project is an excellent illustration of the role federal Rural Development funds can play in helping to enhance the quality of life and improve the business environment of rural Missouri." Congressman Kenny Hulsholf said.  "I am pleased that the Department of Agriculture has recognized the importance of this project."
"This kind of assistance mirrors USDA Rural Development’s mission and President Bush’s initiative of being committed to the future of rural communities," said Greg Branum, Missouri State Director for USDA Rural Development.  "Appreciation is extended to our federal elected officials for supporting USDA Rural Development.  They have been strong proponents for the necessary funding for essential services for rural Missouri."
Dr. Kelly Nelson, Research Agronomist at the UMC Greenley Research Center stated "A new research plot combine will be a great addition allowing our staff to gather detailed information on the many research projects that are taking place here at the Greenley Center.  With the capabilities of the new equipment we will be able to provide timely and more detailed reports on our research projects such as the value added crop production varieties and on the specialized drainage research."
