Teacher Resigns; Contracts Offered At KC R-1 Meeting

The Knox County Board of Education met in a Special Open Session Emergency meeting at noon on January 30, 2008 to discuss an urgent personnel matter.
Attending the meeting were President Joe Delaney, Secretary Chris Harrison, Treasurer Billy Hunter and Shelly Bugh, in addition to Superintendent D.J. Leverton, High School/Middle School Principal Andy Turgeon, Elementary Principal Marty Strange and CSIP Coordinator Marilyn Waite.  Absent were Mark Greenley and Vice-President Ruey Douglas. 
The meeting was adjourned to enter into the Special Executive Session Emergency meeting where those present unanimously voted to accept the resignation submitted by Carla Alexander effective on that date, January 30, 2008.  Prior to her resignation, Alexander served as the Technology and Health Education instructor. (Currently substitute teaching Alexander’s classes is Sally Shoults who holds a teaching certificate.)  Having completed their business, members voted to adjourn.
On February 21, 2008, the Board again met in Executive Session following the regular meeting.  The resignation submitted by Kate Murphy as the High School Co-Head Varsity Track Coach for the 2007-08 school year was accepted.  Twelve-month contracts for the 2008-09 school year were offered to Marty Strange and Elementary Principal and Nancy Goodwin as Special Education Coordinator/Director at the current salary schedules.  Steve Ramer received a contract as 6-12 Assistant Principal and Transportation Director for the 2008-09 school year at the current salary schedule.  Marilyn Waite also received a part-time contract as MSIP Coordinator and Administrative Assistant for the 2008-09 school year at the current salary schedule.
