Knox County Senior Tea

The Knox Co. FCE (Family and Community Education) organization honored the Knox County senior girls with a “tea” on Wednesday afternoon, April 30 in the high school cafeteria.
Linda Harder, president of FCE, welcome the seniors girls, their mothers, grandmothers, and other guest to the annual event. She then talked about some of the organizations accomplishments since being established in 1936 and the current activities of the organization on the state, county and local level.
The group attending then enjoyed watching fourteen of the senior girls modeled their prom dresses. Pam Franke introduced each girl, and read a description of each dress as they took their turn modeling. The girl then had the opportunity to introduce her guest for the afternoon.
Following the style show, Wendeline Brumbaugh, Family Financial Education Specialist with the University of Missouri Extension, gave a short talk on “What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up?” She shared 8 Pathways to Success which were Pathway #1-Take the First Step, #2-Make Wise Choices; #3-Follow Your Dreams; #4-Maintain a Positive Attitude; #5-Feel the Fear and Have the courage to persevere; #6-Learn from Your Mistakes; #7-Make a Difference in the Lives of Others; and Pathway #8-Keep an Open Mind and be willing to change. Wendeline completed her talk by admonishing the girls to “not forget the path that brought you here today.” She related the entire speech to the senior motto: “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us” (Ralph Waldo Emerson.) Door prizes were then awarded to the guests. These were generously donated by various businesses and organizations in the community. Each senior girl was the recipient of at least one door prize, with mothers and grandmothers also in the drawing for the rest.
The afternoon came to an end with everyone enjoying refreshment of cookies, punch, nuts and mints provided by the Green Acres FCE.
