Chick-N-Dales to Host Knox County Rescue Squad Dinner & Dance Benefit

By Crystal Howerton

The Knox County Rescue Squad plans to host a dinner and dance benefit on Saturday evening, August 9, 2008 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Edina to assist in paying for the new squad truck and repairs.

The rescue squad will offer an evening with the Chick-N-Dales, dinner, entertainment and dance with music by the Ramblin’ Fever Band, all in one night at once price. Volunteers will be serving pork, scallop potatoes, coleslaw, baked beans and cake. Advanced tickets are available at Edina Farm and Home or contact a member of the rescue squad or Chick-N-Dales. Advanced tickets will be $25.00 per couple or $15.00 single. Tickets at the door are also available at $30 per couple or $20 single. (See ad elsewhere, this issue.)

An organization supported solely by donations and fundraising efforts, the Knox County Rescue Squad was formed around 1977 to function as a rescue unit in vehicle extrication.
The current Commander is Dick Hopkins whom has served on the rescue squad in that capacity for several years. The Knox County Rescue Squad is based entirely on volunteers, all of who are employed elsewhere and whose employers graciously allow them time off from work to respond to emergency calls. However, the squad is always looking for additional volunteers. Most of the volunteers have been trained in multiple areas to respond to emergencies.

The Knox County Rescue Squad possesses three emergency vehicles equipped for repelling, water rescue and vehicle, farm and bus extrication. The City of Edina generously furnishes gasoline for all three rescue units and carries liability insurance on each. In the past, the County has assisted with tires and batteries, etc, but the rescue squad receives no money from City or County taxes.
