County Chamber Makes Fall Plans
County Chamber Makes Fall Plans
By Carol Kincaid
The Knox County Chamber of Commerce met at The Pizza Haus in Edina on Thursday, October 2, 2008. Topics discussed included the Safe Stop Trick or Treat, Shop Edina First, and Christmas in Knox County.
A new item was brought before the Chamber board— that of a forum for the voters to question the candidates on matters of importance. The First Annual Candidate Forum will be held on October 20 at the American Legion Hall. Voters will be offered the chance to write their questions as they enter the hall and as they listen, then a moderator will ask the questions of the candidates, who will each be allowed a limited time to answer. The program will be informal, but fair.
The plans were finalized for the “Safe Stop Trick or Treat” event. The Chamber allocated funds to purchase a prize for the “Grand Prize” drawing following the event. Registration for the drawing and the various Chamber member businesses participating will be under the 4H/FFA pavilion and in specially marked businesses around the square. (Participating Chamber member businesses will be marked with a sign featuring a pumpkin.)
“Shop Edina First” will be held on Saturday, November 8th. This is not to be confused with the regular Christmas with Santa. Shop Edina First will highlight the Chamber businesses and any specials they will be featuring so that residents can “Shop Edina First” before driving to the larger cities. Watch for ads in the coming weeks.
Saturday, December 6 will be “Christmas in Knox County”, with Santa appearing at the American Legion Hall. A soup supper will be held by the Chamber, with proceeds going to support the Knox County Relay for Life. Relay members will also be present with sweets available for a good will offering.
Jeanne Bailey provided sample letters of business letters of support for the NAP grant application. The letters are in support of the grant requested to build the Community Building. She urged anyone who wishes to see a Community Center built with a walking track, exercise facility, and meeting place, to write letters of support and get them to her by the end of October.
The next meeting of the Knox County Chamber of Commerce will be held November 3 at The Pizza Haus.
