Newark Fire Takes Life

FATAL FIRE – Pete Benner, 38, was killed in a fire at his residence one block south of the Newark Christian Church in Newark, MO early Saturday morning. At 12:52 a.m. on November 8, 2008 the Knox County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a house on fire with a man trapped inside the residence. Assisting at the scene were the Newark, Lewistown, LaBelle and Shelbyville Fire Departments. At 6:05 a.m. Benner was found in the remains of the structure fire and pronounced dead by Knox County Coroner Jeff Doss. The Missouri State Fire Marshalls were called to the scene to investigate. The cause of the fire is yet undetermined.
