Filings Completed For April Municipal Election

The filings for the April 7, 2009 election are now complete and the ballots soon to be printed. There is one proposition before all Knox County voters, as well as the duty for most to choose two of the three candidates for the School Board.
The Proposition (1) reads “Shall the County of Knox CONTINUE the EXISTING county-wide sales tax of ½ cent (one-half) for the purpose of the General Revenue Fund beginning January 2010?” The General Fund, among other things, provides several salaries for courthouse employees and buys supplies for many of the offices. It also provides for the upkeep and maintenance of the courthouse.
Joe Delaney of Baring and Ruey Douglas of Novelty have both donated six years each to the School Board, and are now stepping down. Candidates for their two spots are Rhett Hunziker, Craig A. Miller, and Karen K. Hall.
Voters in the Village of Novelty will deal with the above two items and elect Patricia Carlson and Joe Simmons to the Board of Trustees for two-year terms. Joe and Pat are the only two who filed unless there is a write-in candidate.
In Newark Village, Meg Glover and Tonya E. Kincaid are the two who filed for the two positions available on the Board of Trustees. They will be elected to a two-year term.
Knox City has no one running for the Marshall Ex Officio Collector, a two-year term. Michael E. Rash is the sole candidate running for the North Ward Alderman two year term, and Cheryl L. Adair is running for the one-year term, North Ward Alderman. Rex D. Browning is running for the one year-term as South Ward Alderman, and David McCabe filed for the two-year term South Ward Alderman position.
No one filed for the job of Mayor of Hurdland- a one-year term. Lisa Van Dyke filed for the two-year term of East Ward Alderman, while Julie Lewis filed for the one year-term for the East Ward Alderman. James B. Hamlin filed for the two-year term as West Ward Alderman, but no one filed for the one-year term.
In Edina Gordon Edwards runs unopposed for Alderman of the First Ward, a two-year term. Craig Miller also is unopposed for Alderman of the Second Ward, two-year term. Third Ward incumbent Tom Morgret also has no opposition for his two-year term.
No one has filed for the position of Mayor of Baring, a two-year term. Russell Schultz filed for the two-year term open on the City Council, but no one filed for the one-year term.
On occasion, Knox County voters who receive services from other areas are asked to vote on certain items. Such is the case this year on some ballots.
“Consolidated Public Water Supply District No. 1, of Clark County— To choose by ballot one (1) person who shall serve as Director of the Consolidated Public Water Supply District No. 1 of Clark County (sub-district #1) for a term of three (3) years)— select Grover Gamm or Kirby Clark. “
“To Choose by ballot one (1) person who shall serve as Director of the Consolidated Public Water Supply District No. 1, of Clark County (sub-district #2) for a term of three (3) years. Choose one—James Hudnut, David McCutchan or Danny L. Dannenhauer.”
“Public Water Supply District #1 of Macon County, Missouri—For Director From Sub District No. 1, a three year term, choose between Chuck Wilson and Frank Withrow.”
“For Director from Sub District No. 4, also a three year term, choose one from Jeffrey McLin, Rusty Timbrook, or Shawn C. Neer.”
Lastly, those in the far eastern portion of the county may have this final item on their ballot. “Lewis County C-I School District—Choose by Ballot Two Directors who shall serve as members of the Lewis County C-1 School District for a term of three years each. Those vying for the two positions are Terry Faulconer, Robert Reed Miller, Terry L. Lay, and Johnnie Schultz.
