Several students and two retiring Board Members were recognized by the Knox County R-I School Board during their regular March 17 meeting.  Additionally, other business matters were dealt with.
Minutes were approved from the February 17 Regular and Executive meetings, as well as a Special Executive meeting on March 6 by unanimous vote.  The Board heard and accepted reports from the Superintendent and Administrators.

Steve Ramer—
·The Knox County R-I School District, Board of Education, Administration, staff and students recognized the 2009 Boys Varsity Basketball Team and Coaches Jesse Crawford and Ryan Waters on their outstanding season and second consecutive District Championship.  Members were Brett Bryant, Dennis Dent, Parker Dixson, Keenan Gillaspy, Lucas Hudson, Brady James, Tristan Lonberger, Lance McMahon, Mitchel Penn, Justin Reeves, Joe Rice, and Brett Wilkerson.
·Recognized the 2009 Girls Varsity Basketball Team and Coaches John Weaver and Roger Parton on a winning season.
·Recognized three students going to state in the annual Knights of Columbus Free Throw competition—Brady Johnson, Keely Strange, and Jake Leverton.
·Updated information on security—district will install new keyless system on eight exterior entry doors.
·Reported on the Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) air quality inspection report with findings of no mold/ spore found and good air quality.
   Andy Turgeon
·Recognized Megan Hunolt who will be a Knox County R-I High School graduate of the Class of 2009 and will also be graduating with an Associate Degree (AA) from Moberly Area Community College (MACC).  She was able to do this through dual credit offered by the Knox County R-I High School, and was the first Knox County R-I student to achieve this.
·Announced that Knox County R-I School District was the Battle of the Belt Challenge winner.  Cyndy Bliem-Sharp and Jane Moore presented information about the program and the award for this safety belt competition among Missouri high schools.
·Reported that ACT workshops will be offered prior to the April ACT test date.
·Reported on MoVIP and the new partnership between DESE and the University of Missouri to provide virtual learning for the 2009-2010 school year.
·Presented a list of student honors achieved by FFA members.
·Presented Career Pathways Guide for the 2009-2010 school year.
Superintendent Leverton
·Reported on a meeting with MoDOT and local representatives studying ways to improve safety on Highway 6 at the entrance(s) to the district facilities through the installation of possible turn lane(s) and/or signals.
·informed the Board of potential funding cuts from DESE for the 2009-2010 school year.
·Updated Board on the projected health insurance costs for next year.
Sharon Hall (PAT)
·Presented the Early Education/PAT/Parent Education report.
Marilyn Waite presented the Distance Learning Agreement between Adair county R-II (Brashear) and Knox County R-I School District for the 2009-2010 school year.  The agreement continues the original approved for 2006-2007 which is to be approved annually by both districts.  Action was approved unanimously.
Supt. Leverton presented the Board with information and cost projections on providing health insurance to two groups of support staff (cooks and paraprofessionals) currently not covered.  Following discussion, the Board voted unanimously to table the matter.
Supt. Leverton presented certificates of recognition to Joe Delaney and to Ruey Douglas for each of their six years of service and dedication to the Knox County R-I School District as members and officers of the Knox County R-I Board of Education.
The Board then adjourned to executive session.
