Following the customary matters and monthly reports of the Edina City Council, newly re-elected Aldermen were sworn in to office. First Ward Alderman Gordon Edwards, Second Ward Alderman Craig Miller, and Third Ward Alderman Tom Morgret received their oath’s of office from City Clerk Margaret Gibson during the April 10 meeting.
Monthly bills were authorized for payment and the meeting was opened to “Citizen Comments”.
Wendy Pitford, after making sewer repairs on her home at North Fulton, spoke with the Council about a suggestion she had for changing the City ordinances that deal with sewer repair, as to what the City is responsible to repair. The Council said they would take her suggestion under consideration.
Ron McCauley mentioned a sewer blockage at Norma Burditt’s home on North Main St. Superintendent Mike Wriedt said he would investigate as soon as possible.
Bob Leckbee explained a blockage problem he is having, with sewage backing up into his home on East Morgan. After investigation, he determined there is an eight inch sewer main that services homes on East Bryant, that runs under his driveway. It is assumed that there is a blockage in this pipe. Supt. Wriedt said he will find the blockage as a temporary fix, then contact the City Engineer to find out what can be done as a permanent fix. In the meantime, City Hall will be notifying the parties “upstream” about the problem.
Davey Strickler Jr. was delegated to represent the City in the Northeast Missouri Solid Waste Management Council. Gordon Edwards was selected as alternate.
The Council voted unanimously to cost share the materials to replace the sidewalk on the East side of the Courthouse. The labor is hopefully to be provided by GAMM.
Supt. Wriedt was instructed to place an ad in The Sentinel for bids to build a shed for use by the City. Also during his report he told Council member that he will start “ditching work” all over town. The Council also authorized him to offer a temporary summer help position.
Council woman Renee’ Edwards reported a number of improvements needed at Miller Park.
Wastewater Supt. Brad Eitel is on vacation, so Alan Ives is filling in as a temporary measure.
Police Chief Roger Waibel submitted a written report that noted progress on two of the buildings noted as in violation of City ordinances, and one is preparation for demolition (the old Krackers building).
A final item mentioned was that the roof is leaking at City Hall.
