Help Stamp Out Hunger, Leave Nonperishable  Food Near Your Mailbox

Saturday, May 9 Is The Date To Leave Food Donations

Edina, MO – as many families struggle to pay the bills and keep food on the table, the National Letter Carriers Association asks you to help in the fight against hunger. Simply leave a box, sack, or can of non-perishable food near your mailbox Saturday, May 9 Hunolt also noted that donations are particularly critical in the summer when most school lunch programs are suspended and millions of children must find alternate sources o nutrition.
The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Food Drive is the largest one-day drive in the nation. Carriers in Edina collected 375 pounds of food last year.
   Making a donation is easy. Customers should leave their non-perishable food donation in a bag near their mailbox on May 9, before their letter carrier arrives.
The U.S. Postal Service’s Priority Mail Service, Campbell Soup Company and America’s Second Harvest are major supporters of the food drive. Campbell Soup and the Postal Service will cosponsor the printing of 105 million postcards to postal customers announcing the food drive.
Other co-sponsors of the drive with the letter carriers’ union are Feeding America, formerly known as America’s Second Harvest, the nation’s food bank network; the United Way of America and its local United Ways; and the AFL-CIO.
