 Knox County R-I Board Approves Salary Increases In April Executive Session Meeting

The Knox County R-I school district approved a 3% salary increase on their current contracts for administrators and all staff not on a salary or pay schedule for the 2009-2010 school year.
Staff member resignations were accepted, along with teaching contracts being offered by the Board of Education during their April 21, 2009 Executive Session meeting.
The Executive Session time recorded on the approved minutes showed the meeting began at 9:50PM and was adjourned at 1:20AM the following day.
President Shelly Bugh, Vice President Mark Cardwell, Secretary Nancy Averill, Treasurer Darrell Shultz along with Board members Karen Hall, Stacy Harder and Craig Miller were present.
President Bugh called the meeting to order. The agenda was approved as proposed. The seven present and voting members agreed to all motions that carried by a 7-0 vote.
The Board discussed legal issues, student matters and personnel matters. Motions were made by Mark Cardwell and seconded by Nancy Averill to accept the resignations of Sandy Davis, Kathy Gonnerman and Susan Drew effective at the end of their current 2008-09 contracts. The motions were approved by unanimous vote.
Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the motion was made by Shelly Bugh and seconded by Stacy Harder to offer teacher contracts for the 2009 Summer School at the appropriate salary level to Betsy Parrish, Jeannie Anderson, Anita Taylor, Lisa Bowen, Lindsay Becraft and Jesse Crawford. The motion passed on a 7-0 vote.
Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the motion was made by Stacy Harder and seconded by Darrell Shultz to offer a teacher contract to Sherry Miller for the 2009 Summer School. The motion was approved by a 6-0-1 vote.
Shelly Bugh, Mark Cardwell, Nancy Averill, Darrell Shultz, Karen Hall and Stacy Harder voted in the affirmative with Craig Miller abstaining. Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent the motion was made by Stacy Harder and seconded by Darrell Shultz to offer 2009 Summer School teacher contracts to Kelley Carlson and Frances Jones. The motion carried by a 7-0 vote.
The following motions to offer 2009-10 teaching contracts and extra duty contracts were all made upon the recommendation of the Superintendent at the appropriate salary schedule. Shelly Bugh moved to offer Allison Schmidt a teaching contract. The motion was seconded by Stacy Harder and passed on a 7-0 vote.
Darrell Shultz moved to offer Elizabeth Monroe a teacher contract for the 2009-10 school year. Shelly Bugh seconded the motion, which passed by a 7-0 vote. Stacy Harder moved to offer Megan Hines a teaching contract for the upcoming school year. Shelly Bugh seconded the motion, which was approved by unanimous vote.
Motions were made by Stacy Harder and seconded by Nancy Averill to offer Lacy Schneider and Karen Hodge teacher contracts for 2009-10. Both motions passed by 7-0 votes.
   Sherry Lingenfelter was issued a partial overload contract for the upcoming year by unanimous Board vote. The motion was made by Darrell Shultz and seconded by Craig Miller.
Estalene Eyler, Janee Morgret, Kathy Wever and Dawn McCauley were employed as paraprofessionals for the 2009 Summer School at the appropriate hourly wage. Shelly Bugh made the motion seconded by Mark Cardwell. The motion carried by a 7-0 vote.
Stacy Harder moved to employ Heather Parrish as a paraprofessional for the 2009 Summer School at the appropriate hourly wage. Nancy Averill seconded the motion, which passed by a 6-0-1 vote with Darrell Shultz abstaining.
Stacy Harder moved and Craig Miller seconded the motion to offer extra duty contracts for the 2009-10 school year at the appropriate salary schedule to: Allen Garrett-Activities Director, Steve Ramer-Head High School Football Coach, Jesse Crawford-HS Assistant Football Coach, John Weaver-Head Middle School Football Coach, Grant Stephenson-Middle School Assistant Football Coach, Jesse Crawford-Head HS Boy’s Basketball Coach, Joyce Delaney-Head HS Campus Bowl and National Honor Society, Melissa Leverton-High School Student Council.
Frances Jones and Tracy Hamlin were offered extra duty contracts as Co Sponsors of the Middle School Student Council, Judy Shultz-FBLA, Ben Bradley and Jessica Erwin Co-Advisors of the FFA, Frances Jones, MS Drama, Tracy Mallett-Marching Band and Pep/Concert Band, Cheryl Newland-Vocal Music and Cyndy Bliem-Sharp-Renaissance. The motion was approved by a 7-0 vote.
Stacy Harder moved to offer Sherry Miller an extra duty contract as Head Middle School Campus Bowl sponsor seconded by Shelly Bugh. The motion was approved by a 6-0-1 vote with Craig Miller abstaining.
 A motion was made by Nancy Averill and seconded by Stacy Harder to offer Ryan Waters extra duty contracts as the high school assistant baseball and boys’ basketball coach. As previously reported by the Edina Sentinel the motion failed by a 3-4 vote. Stacy Harder, Craig Miller and Karen Hall voted yea while Shelly Bugh, Mark Cardwell, Nancy Averill and Darrell Shultz voted nay.
Ryan Waters resigned his Knox County R-I teaching contract and has accepted a teaching and coaching position at Cabool High School in Southwest Missouri.
Garet Nunan has been named to replace Waters as high school boy’s assistant basketball coach. Nunan coached the KCMS seventh grade girls’ basketball team last season.
The 3% salary increase motion was made by Mark Cardwell and seconded by Stacy Harder. The motion passed by unanimous vote. The Stacy Harder and Shelly Bugh motion to adjourn the meeting was approved 7-0. The April 21, 2009 Executive Session minutes were approved May 19, 2009.
