Kids R Us Daycare and Preschool Turns 20

Kids R Us Daycare and Preschool Turns 20

Kids R Us Daycare and Preschool will celebrate its 20th anniversary on Sunday, July 12, 2009.  They remember, with grateful hearts, the persons responsible for Kids R. Us becoming a reality.
Lisa Spilker was the original director and Sharon Hall was assistant director.  Pastor Robert Stephens was the pastor of the Edina Assembly of God Church at that time and is the present pastor.  Quoting Pastor Stephens’ words of 20 years ago, “This has been a dreaam come true for us.  The center is a success because people wouldn’t give up on it.  We were determined to have a high quality center and worked to ensure that we did.”  Pastor Stephens’ statement remains ever so true still today.
This center continues to remain a dream come true to many parents in need of quality daycare.  Many loving and caring women have had the opportunity over the past 20 years to love and nurture some of our future leaders.
The daycare/preschool remains affiliated with the Assembly of God Church, but is open to all children.  “the center’s continued success is a result of God’s Word being put into action through all the willing hands of so many who care,” states the present director, LaVerne Pulse.  Kids R. Us is based on the same philosophy of 20 years ago that a child should be educated in all aspects of his/her life: spiritual, social, physical, emotional, cognitive, and creative.
Children in three age categories are served: infants- six weeks to 17 months, toddlers- 18 months to three years, and preschoolers- three years to five years.  Much of the original regimen continues today.  Preschool classes are conducted in the morning, beginning with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.  Free play and other interactions are enjoyed during the afternoon.
The Knox County elementary school buses make morning and afternoon stops at the center to pick up or drop off children who need care before and after school.
Toddlers begin their day with prayer and the Pledge followed by table time.  The children are taught to hold writing utensils, recognize colors, sizes, shapes, etc.  The afternoon is spent free playing with multiple educational learning tools.
Infants are kept separate, for the most part, from the other children.  In this room they are assisted with learning to roll over, sit up, and walk.  They are introduced to solid foods and silverware when the child is ready.  Reading is a very large part of activities in both the preschool and toddler rooms as is outside play.
Everyday is a learning experience for not only the children but the staff as well.  Five full-time and four part-time employees make up the Kids R Us staff.  Openings are available in the toddler and preschool rooms at this time.  Inquiries are accepted five days a week, Monday through Friday.
A special open house (see ad elsewhere) will be held on July 12th to celebrate 20 years of ministry to the community.
