2009-2010 School Year Discussed At School Board Meeting

The Knox County School Board met Monday, June 29th at 7:00 pm, to discuss the 2009-2010-school curriculum, bus routes, previous class funds, and other topics concerning our school district. All board members were in attendance as Knox County School Board president called the meeting to order.
Steve Ramer addressed the board to receive finial approval of the upcoming school year bus routes. The state recommends the students not exceed a ninety-minute commute and the routes for all of the buses are under the allotted time. The routes passed on a unanimously.
The next item up for discussion was the remanding funds of the graduating classes of 1999-2009. The State of Missouri will no longer allow the school district to give the funds back to the graduated classes. Martha Gudehus, a sponsor for the graduating class of 2009, addressed the board with her concerns for the graduated class’ funds, the class wouldn’t have budgeted so tightly if they had known the money wouldn’t remain in their funds, she then urged the board to communicate better with the classes and their sponsors. The Board then voted on the mattered and the motion carried 6-0 without a vote from board member Stacey Harder.
New business on the agenda was then addressed. The Faculty gave the school board their evaluations on the programs and services offered at the schools, including Title I/ Preschool, Curriculum, Professional Development, Library and Media Corners, and transportation. The faculty reports were positive and the programs seem to be serving our students well. The Title I/ Preschool Program urge for more parental involvement, the Library and Media Corners are would like to be able to encourage more High School students to read, and the Transportation department reported that they need more substitute drivers and expressed to the board that the transportation department would like to purchase GPS systems for the buses to help guide the substitute drivers and a computer diagnostics for the bus mechanics. The approval of the programs and services evaluation reports was then voted on and carried seven for and no opposed.
Andy Turgeon then presented the Curriculum Guides Binders to the board. He explained that the guides were course description set by state standards and that they were resourceful tools for teachers and substitute teachers. The approval for the curriculum guidelines carried 7 for to 0 against.
Superintend Leverton then presented the preliminary budget for the 2009-2010 school year. About $253,000 was moved from fund one to fund two for improvements and about $94,000 was moved from fund one to fund four for transportation expenses. The previous year’s budget was over by 3% due to the payment of leans and the purchase of two new buses. Approval of the 2009-2010 school year budget carried unanimously.
The School Board meeting was then adjourned at 8:40 pm by a seven-zero roll call vote.
