Sikeston Youth Drowns At Baring Sever Lake
At approximately 4:48 pm on Monday, August 3rd, 2009, a phone call came into the Knox County Sheriff’s office regarding a possible drowning at the Baring Sever Lake. Authorities were notified and were on the scene for approximately four hours at which time the victim’s body was found. Phillip Wilson, age sixteen of Sikeston, Mo. was pronounced dead at approximately 8:40 pm by the Knox County Coroner.
At approximately 4:30 that afternoon, Wilson was swimming with a group of four friends; he attempted to swim across the lake, but tired and went under.
Assisting the Knox County Sheriff’s office was the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Missouri State Water Patrol, the Lewis County Dive Team, Edina Police Department, Knox County Ambulance, Air-Evac, Knox County Coroner, as well as servel community volunteers.
