Tanner Ellison Sells Reserve Champion Pen of Chickens At the 2009 Missouri State Fair Sale of Champions

(August 23, 2009, SEDALIA, MO)—— Youth in Agriculture Day was celebrated Saturday, August 22, at the 2009 Missouri State Fair, and among the highlights by the annual Sale of Champions auction which totaled $104,100.  
First time poultry exhibitor, Tanner Ellison of Baring, Mo., and son of Mike and Genel Ellison, sold his Reserve Champion Pen of Chickens at the 2009 Youth in Agriculture Sale of Champions for $2,100. He is a member of the County Liners 4-H Club.  
The Reserve Champion Cornish Cross Rock Broilers weighed an average of 7 pounds and were purchased by Smithton Industries and Don’s Towing, both of Sedalia, along with Youth in Agriculture and hometown supporters.
Hometown supporters were Arment Car Care, C & R Market, Citizens Bank of Edina, Edina Farm and Home, Heartland Dairy, Knox Co. Farm Bureau, Lewis Co. REC, Mark Glasgow Angus Farms, Mike, Mary, Laine and Claire Martin, Memphis Farm and Home, Peoples Bank of Wyaconda, Rainbow Ridge Farms, Robert Collinge, D.D.S., Spicknall Farms Angus and United State Bank – Lewistown, Edina and Ewing. The meat birds were donated to the Missouri 4-H Foundation and the Missouri FFA Leadership Fund.
Proceeds from the annual sale benefit both the winning exhibitors and the Missouri State Fair Youth in Agriculture Scholarship Program. Due to the generous support of Youth in Agriculture sponsors, the Missouri State Fair Youth in Agriculture Committee has awarded over 300 scholarships to Missouri youth pursuing a degree in an agriculture-related field.  
Last year, the committee was able to award thirty $1,000 scholarships and one supreme $2,500 scholarship.
