The Knox County Area Chamber of Commerce covered a number of topics during their October 14 meeting at R & S Food-n-Fun (formerly Knox County Lanes) in Knox City.
It was decided that the annual “Safe Stop for Trick-or Treaters” would be held on Halloween, Saturday, October 31. Set up for the event will begin at 1 PM that day, under the 4H pavilion in Edina, “treating” will begin at 3 PM.
For those who have never attended Safe Stop, Chamber members are at tables under the pavilion, passing out treats to the youngsters as they come by the tables. Other Chamber members around the square may display the “Safe Stop” jack-o-lantern in a window or door, signifying a safe place for the children to receive treats.
Discussion was also begun on the event prior to Christmas, encouraging residents to shop locally. It was decided to hold the events on November 21, calling it “Knox County Christmas”. Several ideas were discussed, including combining all events (soup supper, Santa, cookie decorating, carriage rides, caroling, crafters and Edina Bucks drawings. Volunteers to contact those who have participated in the past will report at the November meeting.
One of the new owners of R & S Food-n-Fun, David Wade, introduced himself to the Chamber members, explaining that his partner/ wife, Heather was under the weather.
Chamber Board members voted to purchase membership plaques for Chamber members. The plaques will be purchased locally from Kim and Les Cardwell. Samples were on display and were approved by vote.
The next meeting of the Knox County Area Chamber of Commerce will be at the Edina Country Club on November 4.
