City Adds Manholes To It’s List Of Repairs

On Monday, October 12th, at 7:00 PM the Board of Aldermen for the city of Edina met in regular session. All Board members where present as Mayor Strickler called the meeting to order, and then gave the invocation, which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Margaret Gibson read aloud in its entirety the minutes of the previous month’s meeting’s minutes and the collector’s report, due to the absence of Betty Morgret.
Next, Peggy Collinge spoke to the Board, showing the city in the black for the month, and reminding them the November Budget is coming up once more.
Craig Miller then made a motion, which Albert Hagerla then seconded, to pay this month’s bills, which passed with a unanimous 6-0 vote. The floor was then open to citizens comments, but there where none so the meeting pushed onward.
Ed Anderson of Hawkins Insurance Group showed the Board of Aldermen two options for the City Employees Health Insurance renewal happening November 15th. The board voted to keep their current health care plan.
Next the Board reviewed an application for a building permit on the property of Charles McCarty, located on 1204 E. Broadway St, for two patio decks. The structures are estimated to be done November 30th, weather permitting.
The next item on the agenda was the reports form the city departments. Brad Eidel reported that his department was in good shape. Mike Wriedt reported that while the city employees were finishing the work to the city streets they noticed two manholes that were in need of repair. One of which collapsed while they were repairing South Wilson Street and both of the two manholes have been add to the city’s list of repairs.
Next Police Chief Rodger Wibel delivered his report to the Board noting that there were some vacant houses around town that is not compliant with the city’s code, such as boards not being put over broken out windows in the houses. He has given the property owners notice.
The next item on the agenda was the new business. Mayor Strickler announced the Fall General Membership meeting of the Northeast Regional meeting is sent for October 28th, 2009 at the VFW in Memphis. This is an opportunity for city official from Edina and other towns throughout the regional to meet. Mayor Stickler then read a thank you note in its entirety from the Knox County Community Center Board thanking the Board of Aldermen.
Then the board voted to close a section of the meeting with respect to 610.021 legal actions, causes of action or litigation involving a governmental body and any confidently to privileged communications between governmental body or its representatives and it’s attorney.
After the closed session had reopened, the Board of Aldermen then voted to adjourn the October meeting.
