DRIVE THRU FLU CLINIC

DRIVE THRU FLU CLINIC – Knox County Health Department, along with many volunteers, gave over 250 seasonal influenza shots on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 in a drive through flu clinic in uptown Edina. The department which orders 450 seasonal vaccines a year, gave the remaining 200 doses to home health clients, staff and the public the rest of that week. According to health department administrator Lori Moots-Clair, the health department will not receive more seasonal vaccine for the 2009-2010 season, as all manufacturers have shut down ordering.  Individuals that still need a seasonal flu shot should contact their health care providers for further advice.
The health department is receiving shipments of H1N1 vaccine from the government periodically, and they come with instructions for who should receive the vaccine.  Priority groups continue to be school aged children, household contacts of children under 2 years and healthcare workers.  Schools, daycares and physicians offices are notified when it arrives.  When the vaccine is available to the general public, the health department will place notice in the Edina Sentinel.
