KC Chamber Plans “Shop Edina First” Promotion

By Carol Kincaid

Members of the Knox County Area Chamber of Commerce met at the Edina Country Club Wednesday evening, November 11 to finalize plans for their annual Christmas/Winter events.
“Shop Edina First” and “Santa” have traditionally been two separate events.  This year the Chamber decided to combine the two in an effort to bring more people to the community.  Called a  “Knox County Christmas”.   It is scheduled to be held on Saturday, November 21.  Most activities will run from 5 PM to 7 PM.
The Lewis County Rural Electric Co-op, who has many customers in Knox County sponsored both last week’s and this week’s ads for the Chamber event.
Any business wishing to do so may stay open later, so check individual ads for those remaining open.
The Chamber will sponsor a soup supper at the American Legion- with Momentum Youth serving desserts.  The South Side Youth Center will feature Santa, and youngsters will be able to decorate cookies with the members of the Knox County Promotional Council (Cornfest).
Gale Hustead will be taking Christmas pictures at the Extension Office on the east side of the square.
Be sure to register for the “Edina Bucks”, a drawing for three chances to win $50 worth of merchandise from Knox County businesses.  Watch for containers to register your chances.
The UMC Clothes Closet  will be open serving cookies and punch, and handing out treats to children  from 5 PM to 7 PM.
Assistants will be available to write Santa letters at The Pizza Haus, also on the east side of the square, and crafters will be located in the “O’Brien” building on the east side of the square, between Extension and Pizza Haus.
Several other topics were discussed during the meeting.  The idea of a Christmas promotion ad through channel 3 in Kirksville was tabled until reception is more consistent.
Jeff Doss reported efforts and progression with the proposed web site for the Chamber.
Membership plaques were delivered, and will be distributed by Chamber members, or contact one of the officers.
The Chamber members  voted to bring a really big event to the County in May, so be sure to watch for future information.
No meeting will be held in December, so the next meeting of the Knox County Chamber of Commerce will be January 5, 2010 at The Pizza Haus.
