Edina Community Rallies in Support of Assault Victim

Early on the morning of February 13, 2010 an Edina woman, who does not want her name released, received a call from her daughter, who was in distress. The woman says she found her daughter at a residence on North Street in Edina with major trauma to her groin area.
The Edina Police Department has requested no more details about this incident are released so their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident won’t be compromised. Both the Edina Police Department and the Missouri Highway Patrol are working diligently to figure out what happened to her.
It is important to mention I know this young woman and her mother. I have seen the injury for my self. It’s is both grizzly and heartbreaking. Just as I have witnessed the terribleness of her injury I have also seen the overwhelming amount of support and compassion our community has bestowed upon her and her family.
Countless people from all over Knox County have come forward offering everything from sympathy and prayer, food, and even money to help offset her living expenses while she is recovering and unable to work.
The United Methodist Church in Edina took up a collection Sunday on her behalf. They have also put together a prayer quilt for her.
Rev. Pastor Sam Smith told his congregation, “This is the kind of thing that happens in a big city. Not here.” And hs asked them to, “Pray not only for the young woman who was assaulted but also for the people or person responsible for inflicting her injuries.”
The Community Action Agency has committed to help any way they can.
USB in Edina is accepting contributions. Anyone wanting to give money can take it to USB in Edina and tell them to deposit it to the Assault Victim’s Account. Any money given will go straight to her.
Anyone wanting to send cards and condolences can send them to the Bon Air Motel in Edina c/o Assault Victim. Anything anyone sends will get to her.
As a member of this community I’m hopeful people will continue to rally around this young woman and her family as they heal from this tragedy and our local law enforcement will be able to sort out this mess.
