Locals Turn Out To Support KC Nutrition Site

So many people attended the Knox County Nutrition Site’s Soup Supper Freewill Donation Fundraiser on Saturday evening there were more people than there were places to sit. Over 100 people came out to support and donate money to the site.
According to the center’s Director, Jeanne Perrigo, it was the most people she’d seen at the center, “in a long, long time.”
Local merchants and churches donated cakes, pies, cookie bars, and brownies. Several different kinds of soup were provided by the center. Several volunteers donated their time to serve at the event and the Senior Stars Band provided music throughout.
“This is the best turnout we’ve had.” Said Perrigo. “I think we’re doing a little better. Our numbers are up a little. Nothing fantastic, but every little bit counts.”
According to Perrigo, the center has seen a small increase in numbers over the last several weeks, which she attributed to an article about the site struggling published by the Sentinel in September, but the Center isn’t out of the woods yet.
“We took in $1284.43. We’ve got expenses to come out of that, but that was still very good and we had a really good crowd. It was a nice amount and that will help out a lot.” Said Perrigo.
The Knox County Nutrition Center provides daily meals to area seniors either by delivering the meals directly to their homes or serving them at the site. Anyone who wishes to donate to the center may do so by visiting the center Monday through Saturday between 8:00am and 1:00pm. Donations are always welcome and appreciated.
