Gas Line Ruptures At School

The Knox County R-1 Elementary School was evacuated Monday afternoon, December 6, 2010 because of a natural gas leak at the school.
According to KCR-1 Superintendent, Andy Turgeon, the evacuation of the elementary school students and staff to the high school went smoothly and quickly after a bread delivery truck accidentally backed into a gas pipe, near the elementary school, causing the pipe to rupture and natural gas to escape.
The school busses were getting ready to line up in front of the elementary school to load and take students home for the day but were quickly rerouted to the front of the high school where all the students were loaded onto the busses and taken away from the buildings.
The broken gas pipe was repaired that afternoon and school began as usual and without delay the following day.
