Route J North of Hurdland To Close March 28 For Bridge Repair

HANNIBAL – Weather permitting, beginning Monday, March 28, Route J, north of Hurdland, will be closed to traffic for bridge replacement at the South Fork Fabius River Bridge just north of Hurdland. The bridge replacement should take approximately 35 working days, based upon the current schedule, to reopen to traffic. In the next few years, MoDOT is working to improve bridges on many of its minor roads under MoDOT’s innovative Safe and Sound Bridge Program. The 61-year-old bridge is the first of four bridges to be worked on this year in Knox County.
Road closure signs will be in place notifying motorists of the work. Alternate routes of travel should be taken over Routes 11, P, EE and 6. Some areas of the roadway will remain open to residential traffic only; all other traffic must take alternate during this time.
Other bridge replacements in Knox County include Route 156 west of Newark at South Fabius River in May, Route E south of Knox City at Troublesome Creek in June and Route E south of Newark at South Fabius River in July. Several notices will be posted through media, email and message boards alerting the public of the closure.
With almost 40 bridge projects scheduled this year in northeast Missouri, MoDOT has created web pages that will provide updated information about these projects and subsequent road closures. The web pages, found at www.modot.org/northeast under Safe & Sound, are easy to navigate and provide as many details about possible on the bridges that will be rehabilitated or replaced this year.
All roadwork is posted on the traveler information map. Those traveling and commuting public are encouraged to check the online map at www.modot.org daily for new work zones. MoDOT also offers e-update messages sent directly to your email when roadwork is scheduled. Sign up online or call MoDOT’s customer service center at 1-888-275-6636.
