KC Nutrition Site Receives $82,700 Grant

The Knox County Council on Aging, which is better known as the KC Nutrition Site in Edina, is receiving an $82,700 grant from the Missouri Foundation for Health to be awarded over the next two years. The funding is part of MFH’s “Basic Support Program”, and can be used for a plethora of operational expenses.
According to KC Nutrition Site Director, Jeannie Perrigo, who applied for the grant, it’s a welcome boost and couldn’t have come at a better time.
Perrigo says how the grant works is the money is given in installments. The site will receive about $39,000 this year and have to spend it all in order to receive another $39,000 next year, which must also be spent within the year. The final installment in the amount of about $5,000 will be given to the site at the end.
“It can be used for things like building maintenance, equipment, food and supplies, salary cost and insurance. Our roof needs repair, our furnace and air conditioner are older than I am and our floor is bad.” Said Perrigo. “If you don’t spend it you loose it. I know we won’t have a problem with that.”
