KC Civil War Program Huge Success

KC Civil War Program Huge Success
By Echo Menges

Lois Hunziker and her posse of local historians and history buffs from all over Knox County put on a spectacular Civil War event Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the Knox County High School gymnasium and cafeteria. Many locals had no idea how rich Knox County is in Civil War history until they attended the event.
The day began with exhibits of Civil War artifacts displayed by locals in the cafeteria. Hundreds of people turned out to view authentic weapons, uniforms, letters, metals and more. Many of the people who brought something to display dressed in Civil War era clothing and spent hours discussing their historic pieces with the attendees.
The program that evening, which took place in the gymnasium, was well attended by well over 100 people who were both entertained and educated with music of the period, letters to and from soldiers, and stories of events that happened here in Knox County.
Pat Shultz is offering pictures taken at the event on her Facebook page. The album is open to the public. Some pictures taken at the event are also on page 4 of this issue of The Edina Sentinel.
