Knox County Relay For Life June 10-11, 2011

(Edina, Mo.) — Tighten those shoelaces; it’s Relay time again! The Annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Knox County is on June 10-11, 2011, beginning at 6:00 p.m. on the Courthouse Square. This “celebration of life and hope” brings the community together in a unified effort to fight cancer and symbolizes the battle cancer patients face after they are diagnosed with the disease. We hope to see you on the square; we have 10 teams participating in our event this year. There will be great food, entertainment, raffles and other items for sale.
Relay For Life is a fun-filled, overnight event that mobilizes communities to celebrate survivors and remember loved ones. Teams of eight to 15 or more members gather to participate and raise funds for the American Cancer Society’s programs and services. Participants come to celebrate the lives of those who’ve battled and won, remember those lost to cancer, and empower others to fight back against a disease that takes too much.
“Cancer continues to cause heartache and loss to so many families,” said Betty Couch, Relay For Life of Knox County co-chair. “This is the reason we are committed to the eleventh year of our annual event. Our community is very supportive in our efforts in this fight against cancer.”
Cancer does not discriminate – it affects everyone. Like adults, youths want to fight back against the disease that has attacked a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, sibling, friend or even themselves. The youth of our community are our future leaders and we need them to be involved in the fight against cancer.
We are still selling Luminaries, which is a candle you purchase In Memory of someone who has lost their battle with cancer or In Honor of someone who is currently fighting the battle with cancer or who has won the battle. Each Luminary is $5.00 and can be purchased from any team or committee member or by contacting Betty Couch at 660-397-2393. There is also a special t-shirt sponsor display in the Knox County Library window. Sponsor names will also be displayed, on site, the day of the relay.
