KC Food Pantry Teams Up With Sheriff’s Office
By Richard Whiteaker
The Knox County Food Pantry and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office are proud to announce a change in the way in which emergency food baskets will be distributed to families in Knox County who find themselves in need of such assistance. Starting August 1, 2011 the Sheriff’s Office will help by taking food orders for those in need. Any Knox County resident needing emergency food assistance will need to go to the Sheriff’s Office located in the Knox County Courthouse in Edina between 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday where they will complete a food order. Someone from the Food Pantry will then fill the order and deliver it to the Sheriff’s Office where the family can pick up the food. A family can receive up to three food orders per year from November to November. The food pantry will not deliver food except in a dire emergency. If a person cannot physically pick up the food, they will need to make arrangements with family or friends to pick it up.
A family in need can also contact leaders and members of any church in Knox County for assistance. Please contact a food pantry board member with any questions about this change. Present board members are Maynard Blackwood, Leon Blake, Betty Jo Gonnerman, Bill Hunziker, Janet Long, Maurine Mayer, Richard Whiteaker, Carolyn and Clint Wofford.
