City Hopes Sewer Problem Is Solved

City of Edina Superintendent, Mike Wriedt, drafted and sent a letter outlining the City’s plan of action to maintain a southeast Edina sewer lift station in efforts to help prevent sewer back ups in area.
The neighbors who live in the area of Broadway, Shumate and Hill Streets have been embroiled in a debate with the City over the sewer lift station that serves their area, which they believe, caused septic wastewater to back up into two homes in the neighborhood belonging to Clint and Angie Miller and Ron and Lil Troutt. The City maintains the stance that several residents in the area were illegally hooked into the City’s sewer line causing it to back up.
The letter, dated October 11, 2011, states that City employees will be checking the lift station six days a week, Sunday through Friday, and that the sewer line will be jetted out four times a year to “prevent any obstructions that would disrupt the flow to the lift station.”
City employees also replaced one of the lift station’s two pumps to help prevent the sewer from backing up.
City officials hope the disconnection of illegal sewer hookups in the area, improvement to the lift station and preventative maintenance measures being taken will eliminate the possibility of future sewer backups in the southeast Edina neighborhood.
