Support The Local Economy By Shopping In Knox County First

The Knox County Chamber of Commerce is working to promote local businesses here in Knox County by sponsoring two upcoming events, “Shop Knox County First” on Saturday, November 19 and “Knox County Christmas” on Friday, December 2.
In years past the traditional Chamber holiday season event was called “Shop Edina First” and was a day or weekend where local merchants offered discounts to customers while Chamber members organized a soup supper, craft fair, visit from Santa Clause and various other activities. This year is going to be a bit different because the Chamber Board of Directors have decided to break it up into two events approximately two weeks apart.
This year “Shop Knox County First” is solely to promote local commerce. Businesses throughout the county are offering special deals and discounts to holiday shoppers early enough to entice them to shop locally first, before taking their business elsewhere. Holiday shoppers are invited to come and see the many products and services Knox County has to offer.
A few local businesses are already starting to advertise their specials in this issue of the Sentinel and more will advertise their sales in the next two issues before the event.
During “Shop Knox County First” shoppers may enter the Chamber’s “Knox County Bucks” drawing to win one of three $50 gift certificates to be used at any chamber business participating in the promotion. The drawing is free to enter and will be held on Friday, December 2 during the “Knox County Christmas” event.
The “Knox County Christmas” celebration will feature the usual array of soup supper at the American Legion Hall, craft fair and Relay for Life’s chocolate tasting at the Life of Christ Church, visit from Santa, Christmas cookie decorating, wine tasting and more. By breaking up the events the Knox County Chamber of Commerce hopes even more local business will participate in the early holiday shopping day on November 19 and in turn local merchants can come and enjoy the Chamber’s Christmas celebration with the rest of the community a couple weeks later.
Of course we, here at the Sentinel, will keep you posted about the sales, times and locations of everything planned for both events throughout this month.
