Former KCSO Deputy Arrested For Bad Check Charge In Adair County

Former Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy, Howard Smith, was booked into custody at the Adair County Jail on a Passing Bad Check charge, a Class C Felony, and released after posting a cash bond of $300.The felony warrant was issued for Smith’s arrest on Friday, January 13, 2012.
Smith was booked, bonded and released the following day. He is set to go before Adair County Associate Circuit Judge, Kristie J. Swaim, for an initial arraignment on February 1, 2012.
Smith was recently terminated from his position as a Deputy at the Knox County Sheriff’s Office after he allegedly stole evidence and property from the KCSO and allegedly sold the items online.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control are investigating the matter of Smith’s dismissal. He has not been charged in relation to the DDCC investigation in Knox County and it is unclear if and when he would be charged since the investigation is ongoing.
