Governor’s Office Accepting Applications For Open Knox County Treasurer’s Seat
By Echo Menges
Allen Gudehus will vacate the office of Knox County Treasurer at the end of the year. According to the Treasurer/Sheriff Elect he will remain in office as Treasurer right up until December 31, 2012. On January 1, 2012, he will begin his first term as Knox County Sheriff.
According to a representative of Governor Jay Nixon’s office the Governor will have to appoint someone to fill the open Treasurer seat.
“The person selected will serve in that position until the next election. In this case it will be in 2014,” said Scott Holste, spokesman for the Governor’s office.
According to Holste the process for finding a new Knox County Treasurer will begin with an official notification to the Missouri Governor’s office.
“We have not yet been notified by the County Clerk, but we’re anticipating it,” said Holste. “Once notification is given that there will be a vacancy in that office we’ll begin the process of appointing a new Treasurer.”
Gudehus has stated he will submit the necessary notifications about vacating the office of Treasurer sometime this week.
People who are interested in filling the position of Knox County Treasurer are asked to submit an application through the Governor’s website.
“There’s not a set timeframe for filling the position,” said Holste,
“We’ll want to fill it as soon possible.”
The Boards and Commissions branch of the Governor’s office will also be accepting recommendations from members of the community.
“We do receive recommendations all the time,” said Holste. “We look at all the information that comes into us.”
