Update: Tractor Trailer Carrying Anhydrous Tank Rollover
By Echo Menges
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, at approximately 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2013, MSHP, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, the Knox County Ambulance District and the Knox County Rescue Squad responded to tractor trailer rollover on Highway 6 one mile west of Hurdland.
Larry Mershon, 69, of Macomb, Il, was east bound on the highway when his 2006 Peterbilt tractor trailer lost a wheel. Mershon lost control of the vehicle and it overturned along with the anhydrous ammonia tank it was carrying. There were no other vehicles involved in the accident. Mershon was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and only received minor injuries. A Knox County Ambulance took him to the Northeast Regional Medical Center.
According to a representative of the Missouri State Highway Patrol it was originally thought the anhydrous tank ruptured during the rollover, but was later reported that the tank had not ruptured.
As can be seen in the pictures the tractor and trailer were separated and the cab of the truck received a substantial amount of damage. And the front and rear axles of the trailer had completely broken off in the rollover.
