Annual Faculty Music Recital at Culver-Stockton College

CANTON, Mo.— Culver-Stockton College music faculty bring technique, finesse and artistry to Merillat Hall of the Robert W. Brown Performing Arts Center in the Alexander Campbell Auditorium Saturday, Feb. 16 at 3 p.m. with the annual Faculty Recital. The faculty share their talents with the community and model professional performance practice for their students as orchestral literature transcribed for accompanied solo such as Bloch’s Symphony (1954) contrasts with the intimate strains of Baroque guitar or Chopin’s expressive piano music. Brahms Lieder contrast with down-home American folk songs set by Aaron Copland; novelty pieces, modern and avant-garde challenges from saxophone, trombone, and steel pan repertoire round out the varied program.

Faculty performers include saxophonist Trent Hollinger, pianist Elliot Jones, soprano Dr. Carol Mathieson, guitarist Jesse Mazzocolli, trombonist Dr.Tom Polett, trumpeter Aren VanHousen, soprano Lori Scott, percussionist Skip Thompson and pianist Dr. Anda Zirnitis. The Annual Faculty Recital is presented by the C-SC Division of Fine Arts and is part of the college’s Academic and Cultural Events offerings. Admission is free and the public is welcome.
