Memorial Blood Drive Hits Goal
Giving Blood In Memory Of Logan Allen
By Echo Menges
A well-known young man, the late Logan Allen, is sorely missed by all who knew him. Though several months have passed since the tragic accidental death of one of Knox County’s own the loss and the love for Logan is still greatly felt throughout the county especially among Logan’s family and classmates.
Logan was an active student and participated in several activities at school including being a member of the Knox County Future Farmers of America. Last week, with the blessing of Logan’s family, the group hosted a memorial blood drive in honor of their friend setting a very high goal, to collect 100 units of blood. And the Knox County Community Center donated the use of the center for the drive.
On Monday, November 11, 2013, the Red Cross collected blood throughout the day for the Logan Allen Memorial Blood Drive at the Knox County Community Center. Students staffed the door and the snack area while a small army of Red Cross workers set up and manned several blood stations. Logan’s family was also on hand to visit with and thank those who came out to give in honor of Logan.
The community center in Edina was a buzz throughout the day. A busload of students kept the stations full throughout the morning and community filled the stations throughout the afternoon.
In the end the goal was reached. Exactly 100 units of blood were donated to the American Red Cross meaning 100 persons donated blood and plenty more donated their time and attention to the drive. According to a representative of the American Red Cross, 35 of those donors had never given blood before.
