One Arrest After Sex Offender Registration Check In Lewis County

Sheriff’s Office and US Marshal’s Conduct Joint Operation

February 24, 2014

LCSO – On February 13, 2014 members of the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office and the US Marshal’s Service conducted Sex Offender Registration Checks throughout Lewis County, Missouri.  This joint operation was conducted by law enforcement to insure compliance with Missouri law.  The Sheriff’s Office currently monitors 29 registered offenders and is required to physically inspect the residence of each offender at least two times per year.  Most registrants are also required to come to the Sheriff’s Office every 90 days.  Since 2007 the US Marshal’s Service has been tasked with monitoring sex offenders to insure they are in compliance with federal law.  The US Marshal’s also provided funding for this operation.

All registered offenders were found in compliance with Missouri law.  However, as part of this operation law enforcement learned that a sex offender had been residing in Lewis County and had failed to register.

Upon further investigation, Curtis Crandall, age 39, formerly of St. Louis, Missouri had failed to register over the past several months.  He was subsequently arrested for failure to register as a sex offender, a class D felony.  He was held in the Lewis County Jail until being released on February 18th, 2014.  He was released to a rural Lewistown address.
