One Injured in Tractor-Trailer vs. Van Collision North of Edina – VIDEO
A tractor-trailer and van collided at the junction of Highway 15 and Highway AA about a mile north of Edina late Wednesday morning, May 16, 2018, which left one woman injured.
The first emergency responder arrived on the scene of the crash at 11:44 a.m.
The driver of the Chrysler Town and Country van, Joann Swanson, 85, of rural Edina, suffered moderate injuries in the crash.
The driver of the 1992 Freightliner, Shawn Campbell, 47, of Moberly, was not injured in the crash.
Campbell was traveling northbound on Highway 15 in the tractor-trailer when Swanson made a left-hand turn from Highway AA to head south on Highway 15 in the van. The two vehicles collided at the junction.
Both highways were completely closed in both directions for approximately 45 minutes following the crash.
The tractor-trailer jackknifed in the middle of both lanes on Highway 15, which caused the closure. One lane of Highway 15 was reopened at approximately 12:35 p.m. The other lane was opened more than three hours later at approximately 3:30 p.m.
According to a representative of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, a passerby attended to the injured driver at the scene, before emergency crews arrived.
Swanson was taken by a Knox County Ambulance to meet an Air Evac Team helicopter about a quarter mile from the crash scene near the Edina City Lake. Swanson was then flown to the University Hospital in Columbia, MO.
The Knox County Rescue Squad, Edina Volunteer Fire Department, Knox County Ambulance District, Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
