Knox County Library Bringing Well Known Author to Knox County Schools
Well known author Roland Smith, 67, of Portland, Oregon, will visit students at the Knox County Elementary School and Knox County Middle School next week, thanks to the support of the Knox County Library.
Smith has written an assortment of children’s books and young adult adventure books.
Smith’s 20-year career as a zookeeper helped facilitate his earliest children’s books about animals beginning with his first book “Sea Otter Rescue”, which is a 1990 non-fiction children’s book about saving wildlife after the Exxon Valdez oil spill. Smith’s work to save wildlife from the devastating effects of the massive and infamous oil spill led to the publishing of his first book and opened the door to many more.
Throughout his career as an author, Smith has authored or co-authored 17 children’s books and dozens of young adult adventure books. He has also written a number of series collections including the I, Q book series, the Jack Osborne book series, the Storm Runners Trilogy, and the Peak Marcello series along with a number of stand-alone books.
Smith will be at the Knox County R-1 School District on Wednesday, March 20, to discuss his story of becoming an author with students in third through eighth grades during two one-hour long presentations.
“Roland Smith will be talking about his life and how he became the great author he is. The library is so excited that we get to host an event for the students this year. With events like these, we hope that children will come to the library and see all the things we have to offer,” said Knox County Librarian Sarah Pflum. “We have a nice collection of Roland Smith’s books if you would like to stop in and read some action-packed adventures that he has created.”
