Jury Finds in Favor of Plantiffs in Bacon Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Novelty Man

Update: Friday, April 26, 2019 – 7:00 p.m. – “To be clear, the decision was only against Glenn Head. It was not against Donald Roper,” said Bacon family attorney Brent Haden. According to Haden, the case against Donald Roper is a trespassing case, which has not been decided.

According to Haden, the jury found Glenn Head liable for the wrongful death of Bill Bacon and awarded Bacon’s family $1 million in actual damages and $100,000 in punitive damages.

Friday, April 26, 2019 – 4:00 p.m. – The Edina Sentinel has just learned the wrongful death lawsuit filed by members of the Bill Bacon family against Glenn Head for the shooting death of Bill Bacon ended in favor of the plaintiffs, according to a representative of the Cooper County Circuit Clerk’s Office.

“I think they are happy that he is being held accountable. I wish I could have gotten a criminal conviction for them as well. I’m happy the Bacon family can move forward,” said former Knox County Prosecutor Jo Fortney, who prosecuted the murder case against Head in 2014. Head was acquitted by a Randolph County jury at the end of the criminal trial.

News coverage of the trial was stifled by a subpoena to testify at this wrongful death trial served to The Edina Sentinel Editor Echo Menges, which was issued by Head’s legal counsel, effectively keeping The Edina Sentinel out of the courtroom throughout the case.

Menges was never called to testify.

The Edina Sentinel is in the process of gathering more information about the trial in order to accurately report about it.
