Greenley Research Farm Field Day Free Tours – See What’s on the Cutting Edge of Ag

The Greenley Research Center will feature three tours during its annual Field Day, which will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the Center in Novelty, Mo. The tours will focus on topics related to crops, pests and livestock.

The Field Day is free and open to the public. Breakfast will be served at 7 a.m., with tours beginning at 8 a.m. Lunch will take place at noon. Interested individuals are also welcome to stay after lunch for a tour of the Grace Greenley Farm.

“We have a great group of speakers lined up, and each one will be sharing important information related to a variety of topics,” Superintendent Donnie Hubble said. “We are excited to be able to provide our farmers and producers with this information.”

The crop tour will feature discussions on nitrogen management options and building your own between-row weed mower. Tim Reinbott, director of field operations for the MU Agricultural Research Centers, will present on industrial hemp and its potential as a Missouri crop.

The pest tour will showcase information on weed management in soybeans and soybean cyst nematode (SCN) management after flooding. The livestock tour will focus on warm-season grasses, implementing a reproductive management program in a beef herd, seed head management in tall fescue and matching a cow’s genetics to the environment.

Along with the various presentations, a giving match of up to $500 per donor will also be featured during the Field Day. From Aug. 1 to Oct. 31, CAFNR will match donations made directly to any of the Research Centers. That means a $250 donation, for example, would result in $500 overall to whichever Center the individual chooses.

“Our Centers play a vital role in the CAFNR mission by conducting timely and important research – and taking that research to our farmers and producers,” CAFNR Vice Chancellor and Dean Christopher Daubert said. “Each Research Center is an important staple in the communities where they are located.

“Your donations provide critical operating funds that enable each of our Research Centers to purchase equipment, improve facilities and invest in new technologies. Your gifts will ensure the prominence of our Centers, as well as help agriculture research and education thrive in our state.”

Donations can be made online by visiting the Mizzou Give Direct site and entering the Research Center of choice in the search tab. Donations can also be made in person during each Field Day.
