The American Cancer Society Knox County Relay for Life HOPE Club met on Tuesday evening, January 6, to make plans for the Annual Soup Supper, which will be held on February 1 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Edina. Those present were Virginia Carpenter, Janice McGinnis, Carol Fox, Karen Hall, Jo Ellen Doss, Carolyn Snelling, Betty Couch, Nena Palmer and ACS Community Manager Kathryn McDaniel.
A discussion was held regarding other fundraisers, which will be held this year. We are continuing to emphasize the need for research, which will help to eliminate cancer.
Daffodils will be offered as a fundraiser in the same format as last year. They will be delivered in March. Any of the club members listed above can be contacted to place an order before February 21.
Plans are in progress to co-host a repeat fundraiser with the St. Jude Run Team at a later date.
A date has not been set for the Relay event, which will be later this year. We will be offering luminaria for sale “in honor of” and “in memory of” those who have had cancer. There will be a luminaria ceremony to light the candles at a designated time. A special event will be held to honor survivors and T-shirts for survivors will be available. Be sure to look for the Butterfly Release in September during Cornfest.
We will depend on our faithful community and all who have supported us in the past. There is a continued need for dollars for research to prevent cancer and encourage hope for a cure. We need your help to finish the fight.
If you would like to participate as a volunteer, call Nena Palmer at (660)739-4477 or Betty Couch at (660)397-2393.
