Monroe City sprang to a 21-9 first quarter lead in January 21, 2020 Tony Lenzini Tournament first round play and sent Highland to the girls consolation bracket with a 65-53 win.
The Lady Cougars had a better second quarter, outscoring Monroe City by a 20-13 margin. Highland pulled within a 34-29 halftime deficit. The remainder of the game was relatively even.
Monroe City led 49-42 after three quarters. The Panthers made enough fourth quarter free throws to extend their margin to double digits.
Bailee Hays led Monroe City with 18 points. Riley Quinn tallied 16 Panther points.
Addy Johnson led Highland with 17 points. Lauren Merrell scored 13 points. Ansley Bringer was in double figures with 12 Highland points. Marissa Abell scored nine and Gabby Brown added two points.
