WENDELL KURTZ

  Wendell Ralph Kurtz, age 88, of Edina, Missouri, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021, in LaBelle Manor.

  Born on March 19, 1932, in Waynesville, Illinois, Wendell was the son of Ralph and Lucille Dreher Kurtz.  He was united in marriage to Wilma Florea on March 5, 1955, and she preceded him in death on January 20, 1986.  He married Lillie (Florea) Pritchard on February 27, 2004 in Texas, and she survives.

  Wendell was also preceded by his parents; one daughter, Jill Annette Kurtz: two sisters, Francis Holleman and Phyllis Purlee; a brother, Dwight Kurtz; two step-grandsons, Stevie and Clint Pritchard; one step-granddaughter, Annie Constable; and one stepson, Steve Pritchard.

  Surviving are one son, Larry (Angie) Kurtz of Springfield, MO; two granddaughters, MacKenzie and Mallory Kurtz of Springfield, MO; eight step-children, Julie (Kevin) Hoshaw of Stratford, IA, Tracy Pritchard of Lake City, IA, Gary (Sharon) Pritchard of Boone, IA, Kelly Pritchard of Webster City, IA, Sherry (Carl) Andereg of Elkader, IA, Penny Allington of Indiana, Sandy (James) Hobbs of Terrell, TX and Paullette Pirtle of Emory, TX;  three brothers-in-law, Ernest Purlee of Lawndale, IL, Howard Florea of Brashear, MO and George Dale Florea of Horseshoe Bend AK; three sisters-in-law, Bonnie Bilyeu of Springfield, MO, Rose (Karen) Stone of Edina, MO, and Mary Esther Florea of Palmyra, MO; numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren, Step great-greatgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

  Wendell received his education in Delavan, IL.  He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.  He was employed as a mechanic for implement and car dealerships in the area and for chicken processing plants internationally.   He served the Knox County community on the Edina City Council, Edina Fire Department and the Senior Housing Board.  He was a past member of the Edina Masonic Lodge and Cyril A. Graham American Legion Post # 261.

  Family will receive friends one hour before services on 2 p.m. Sunday at the Funeral Home. The family asked that due to COVID-19 those attending the service please wear a mask and maintain social distance. Thanks for your understanding.

  Funeral services with Military honors will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, January 17, 2021, in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.  Pastor Kenneth Rush will officiate the services.  Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville, MO.
