Knox County had a strong first half in their January 12, 2021 non-conference boys game at Palmyra. The Eagles reeled off an 11-2 second quarter run to a 24-8 halftime lead.
The Panthers came back in the second half, outscoring the Eagles in each of the final two periods. Knox County was able to defend without putting the home team on the free throw line and came away with a 44-37 win.
Palmyra outscored Knox County 12-10 in the third quarter, pulling within a 34-20 deficit. The physically gifted teams battled to a 17-10 Palmyra fourth quarter advantage. Knox County built enough of a first half lead to survive being outscored 29-20 in the second half for the win.
Palmyra sank 14 field goals to ten for Knox County. The Eagles hit four three balls to Palmyra’s three. The difference on the scoreboard came at the free throw line. Knox County was 12-21 at the stripe. Palmyra missed the only free throw they tried.
Quade Plunkett led all scorers with 16 Palmyra points. Abe Haerr was next in line with six points. Nelson Shinkle led Knox County with 14 points. Brayden Miller was in double figures with ten points.
Conner Hayes scored eight points. Jacob Becker scored five points. Blake Parrish and Tanner Gillaspy scored two points each.
