SHERRY RITTER LAY

Sharon Kay (Sherry) Ritter Lay, age 75, of LaBelle, MO, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2021, in Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, MO.

She was born May 27, 1945, in Chillicothe, MO the daughter of Pearl Estil and Minnie Effie Piester Ritter. She was united in marriage to Donnie Ray Carper and to this union two children were born Michael Todd and Renee Elizabeth.

Sherry received her education in Steffenville and graduated from LaBelle High School.

Sherry was employed for several years with LaBelle Star and Lewis County C-1. She was employed for 28 years with Truman State University in Kirksville till her retirement in 2017.

Sherry loved the St. Louis Cardinals, her animals and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and attending all sports they were involved in. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.

Surviving are two children, Michael Todd Carper of LaBelle, MO and Renee Elizabeth (Steve) Scoggin of LaBelle, MO, one brother Randy (Robin) Ritter of Cole Camp, MO, five grandchildren, Michael (Amanda) Scoggin, Matthew Scoggin and fiancée Lexi Janney, Reitz Carper, Braeden Carper and Jonathan Williams, two great grandchildren, Elliott and Leah Scoggin, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson Brett Michael Carper.

Officiating for the graveside services was Pastor Paul Harvey services were held Wednesday, March 31, 2021, in Steffenville Cemetery with Michael Scoggin, Matthew Scoggin, Reitz Carper, Braeden Carper, Jonathan Williams, Elliott Scoggin and Leah Scoggin as casket bearers. Coder Funeral Chapel in LaBelle was in charge of arrangements.
