Marceline Opens Season With Home Win Over Brashear

Hunter Quinn blanked Brashear on the mound the first four innings of the season opening varsity baseball game for Brashear. Marceline took a two run lead and held off a late inning challenge in a 7-3 win.
Brashear tied the game with a two run fifth inning. The homestanding Tigers climbed back on top with a three run fifth inning. Hunter Quinn pitched the first five innings for Marceline. Quinn struck out seven batters on five hits with two walks. Two runs were charged to the Marceline starter.
Marceline induced three ground ball outs in the top of the first inning. Brashear first baseman Lane Stutsman drew a one out second inning walk. Austin Paterson singled Stutsman to second base with two out. Hunter Quinn fanned a batter for the final out of inning two.
Tanner Sayre started a two run second inning Marceline rally with a one out walk. Drake Stuffelbean doubled Sayre home with the first run of the day. A walk and an error allowed Stuffelbean to score for a 2-2 Marceline lead after two full innings.
Brashear threatened in the fourth inning but could not score. Garrett Housman drew a one out walk. Brandon Jochimsen singled. Brashear had the tying runs on second and third base. Hunter Quinn stepped up and struck out two batters in succession to end the inning.
Marceline led by a 2-0 margin after four complete innings. Brashear tied the game in the top of the fifth inning. Jack Reeves singled leading off the frame. Avery Zentz singled with one out.
Jace Snelling put the ball in play, scoring Reeves for a 2-1 score. Carson Erwin tied the game with a base hit. Marceline responded with a three run fifth inning.
Wyatt Malloy led off the Tiger fifth inning with a double. Calvin Cathey and Brendon Carton slammed back to back doubles. Marceline led 5-2 after five innings.
Brashear took advantage of an error and a hit by pitch, putting the two leadoff batters on base in their sixth inning. Marceline shut the potential rally down with two strikeouts and a fly ball out.
Marceline put two insurance runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning. Zack Niempier walked leading off the inning. Drake Stufflebean singled. Both runners scored for a 7-2 edge.
Carson Erwin walked and scored on Brandon Jochimsen’s two out double. The game ended on a strikeout with Brashear runners on second and third base. Brashear left eight runners on base and Marceline seven.
Marceline scored seven runs on five hits. Drake Stufflebean led Marceline with a 2-3 day at bat. Stufflebean scored two runs and drove in another. Jaxson Schmitt pitched the final two innings for Marceline, picking up the save. Schmitt struck out five men on one hit.
Marceline pitchers fanned 12 batters on the day with three walks.
Brashear scored three runs on six hits and three errors. Six different Brashear Tigers had a hit each. Brashear employed four pitchers. Garrett Housman pitched an inning and a thirds and took the loss. Housman struck out one with no walks and three hits. Three runs were charged to the Tiger starter.
Carson Erwin pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts and no hits allowed. Brandon Jochimsen tossed an inning and two thirds. Jochimsen walked four batters with three strikeouts on one hit and two runs.
Austin Peterson pitched one inning, walking two on one hit and two runs, one earned.
