COC Minutes Notes April 3, 2021 Knox County Chamber of Commerce Meeting at Lucky’s in Edina.
Vice President Lisa Bosch called the meeting to order at 6:20pm.
Those in attendance were Vice President Lisa Bosch, Secretary/ Treasurer Shannon Downing, Board members Echo Menges, Gail Doss, members Jeff Doss, Jimmye Kraus, and Jacki Gudehus.
The minutes from January were reviewed and Jeff Doss motioned to approve with a second from Echo Menges with all in favor. The treasurer reports from January, February, March, and April were reviewed and Jeff Doss motioned to approve with a second from Echo Menges with all in favor.
Correspondence:
We received a donation request from MO Boys State home office and choose to wait until the local representative reaches out as in the past. The After Prom committee asked for monetary donation for the Prom Meal so Echo Menges motioned to give them $50 with a second from Gail Doss with all in favor. Shannon Downing will deliver a check. A new board, the Knox County Ball Association is asking for donations of time, equipment and/or funding to get a new ball league started in Edina. Jeff Doss motioned to donate $50 with a second from Echo Menges with all in favor.
New members:
Bobby Ray BBQ applied for membership in December and will be voted on tonight. Echo Menges motioned to accept his application for membership with a second from Jacki Gudehus with all in favor. New businesses mentioned were Studio 106, Sunoco, Jared’s Jams, and the newly built grocery store.
Old Business:
Shannon Downing applied for Debit Cards from Citizens Bank and USBank and has received and activated Citizens but is still waiting for USBank Card. She followed up with the local branch who will be delivering the card to Shannon personally.
The Valentine’s fundraiser sold 74 preordered dozen chocolate covered strawberries and then some the day of. 78 dozen strawberries were ordered for $684 plus $50 in supplies and chocolate. Sales reached $1767. This was a successful fundraiser thanks to the volunteers who dipped and delivered strawberries that cold snowy Friday, as well as good C&R berries and C&R Brand chocolate. Discussion was held regarding another round of strawberries for Mother’s Day on May 8th. Decision to be made at later date.
Full page February was completed with updated contact information and annual events at a cost of $250 paid to the Edina Sentinel. Shared donated copies with members in attendance.
Missouri Chamber dues were due in February at $150. Shannon Downing and Lisa Bosch agreed to pay the dues in February since there was not a meeting in February or March. Echo Menges motioned to continue paying Missouri Chamber dues annually without a need to vote, unless the local board votes to cancel membership with a second from Shannon Downing with all in favor. It was also discussed that Missouri Chamber is converting to electronic billing and payment and we should give Shannon Downing’s email address and make payment with the new debit card.
New Business:
The Annual Scholarship committee was formed and received 6 scholarships from which to choose the top 2 applications so checks can be presented to the students on Senior Awards Night on May 18th.
Discussion was held in regards to possible future fundraisers that would be Covid friendly. Echo Menges asked that we support Farmer’s Market if possible and sponsor events like a movie on the square, trivia in the courtyard, nonprofit groups hosting meals, or inviting food trucks to set up on Fridays. Jeff Doss, Echo Menges, Jimmye Kraus and Shannon Downing will reach out to food trucks, local groups, and vendors while we all keep brainstorming ideas.
Additional Comments:
The next chamber meeting will be held May 6th at 6pm at DT’s Pub&Grub in Edina and with a motion from Shannon Downing and a second from Jimmye Kraus. With all in favor the meeting was adjourned at 7:30p.m.
