School Board Hosts Regular Meeting, Minutes

Regular Session

DRAFT – April 20, 2021 – Members Present: Matthew Reel, President; Karisha Devlin, Member; Andrew Parrish, Vice- President; Debbie Hagerla, Member; Shelly Bugh, Secretary; Nathan Shinkle, Member; Kim Jansen, Treasurer; Administration: Andy Turgeon, Melissa Vannoy, Alex Van Delft, Nancy Goodwin, Keith Gudehus; Others In Attendance: Echo Menges, Lisa Blake. Absent: (none).

Matthew Reel, Board President, called the meeting to order.

The motion was made by Shelly Bugh and seconded by Kim Jansen to approve the revised agenda as presented. Vote: 7-0. Motion carried.

The motion was made by Andrew Parrish and seconded by Shelly Bugh to approve the minutes of the Regular Session Meeting held on March 16, 2021 at 6:00 P.M. Vote: 7-0. Motion carried.

The motion was made by Kim Jansen and seconded by Shelly Bugh to approve the minutes of the Executive Session Meeting held on March 16, 2021 at 7:45 P.M. Vote: 7-0. Motion carried.

The motion was made by Andrew Parrish and seconded by Kim Jansen to approve the minutes of the Special Open Session Meeting held on March 30, 2021 at 6:00 P.M. Vote: 7-0. Motion carried.

The motion was made by Shelly Bugh and seconded by Kim Jansen to approve the minutes of the Special Executive Session Meeting held on March 30, 2021. Vote: 7-0. Motion carried.

The motion was made by Karisha Devlin and seconded by Andrew Parrish to approve the payment of the April 2021 warrants as presented. Vote: 7-0. Motion carried.

Citizen’s Communications: None.

Administrators’ Reports

The board heard and accepted reports from the superintendent and administrators.

Melissa Vannoy

• Reported 3rd Quarter Conferences were held

• Reported MAP testing will take place the next two (2) weeks

• Reported on the upcoming Missouri History Night

• Gave a spotlight on Second Grade and some of their learning activities

Alex Van Delft

• Lisa Blake gave an update on the music program

• Gave an update on upcoming events – Prom, Senior Graduation, 8th Grade Promotion and MS Awards

• Gave an update on the ESports Program

Keith Gudehus

• Gave an update on ongoing sports activities

• Reported on current records for Varsity and Junior Varsity Baseball and Track

• Reviewed upcoming competitions

• Gave an update on school facilities usage requests

• Gave an update on the exploration of upgrading the baseball facility

Nancy Goodwin

• Gave an update on Pre-K/Kindergarten Screening

• Gave an update on special education testing

Supt. Turgeon

• Reported on the Green Bus Summit

• Updated the Board on the electric bus and possible grant opportunities

• Discussed CARES Act money and a no tax increase bond issue

Food service report was presented.

Unfinished Business: No items.

Supt. Turgeon resented information on bids for replacing ten (10) HVAC Units in the high school.

The motion was made by Nathan Shinkle and seconded by Kim Jansen to accept the bid submitted by Boston John for ten (10) HVAC Units as presented. Vote: 7-0. Motion carried.

Summer School Plan – Mrs. Vannoy presented the plan for summer school to be held from June 2 through June 29, 2021 from 8:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. with the focus being on literacy and math. Breakfast and lunch will be provided at no cost. Transportation will also be provided at various locations in the county.

The motion was made by Shelly Bugh and seconded by Nathan Shinkle to adjourn the regular session meeting to go into closed session for the purpose of considering the following:Personnel under Section 610.021 Subsection 3 and 13
