Knox County Wins First Eight Man Football Game

Knox County scored the first 22 points of their opening foray into the world of eight man football, winning their August 27, 2021 home game with Schuyler County by a final score of 78-26. Rylan Roberts was 5-11 passing for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Roberts led the Eagles in rushing with 18 carries for a game high 169 yards and six touchdowns.
The Eagle defense kept Schuyler County bottled up defensively, winning the battle for field position. Knox County won total yards by a 409-349 yard margin. Schuyler County held an 18-14 margin in first downs on the night.
Knox County made plays when they had to on both sides of the football. The Eagles converted 75% of their third down opportunities, going 6-8 in this important category. Knox County held the Rams to 2-12 on third down for 17% defensively.
Knox County was 0-1 on fourth down. Schuyler County converted 4-9 of their fourth down gambles for 44%. The Eagles did not turn the football over during the contest. Schuyler County lost one fumble and threw an interception.
Branson Miller caught a five-yard pass from Rylan Roberts in the first quarter, earning the honor of scoring the first eight man football touchdown in school history. The two-point conversion failed, leaving the Eagles ahead by a six point margin.
Rylan Roberts raced 22 yards for a KCHS touchdown. Roberts ran in the two-point conversion for a 14-0 lead. Branson Miller hauled in a 52-yard pass from Rylan Roberts in the opening period. Branson Miller ran in the two-point conversion for the 22-0 Eagle edge after one quarter of football.
Schuyler County got on the board with a ten yard run for a 22-6 Knox County advantage in the second period. Rylan Roberts cashed in a pair of runs, one for 55 yards and the other from 36 yards out. Both conversions failed leaving Knox County ahead 34-6 at the half.
Rylan Roberts opened second half scoring with a nine yard third quarter run. Austin Jansen ran in the two-point conversion for a 42-6 lead. Branson Miller scored on a 27 yard run. The two-point conversion failed leaving the Eagles with a 48-14 advantage.
Schuyler County scored on an 18 yard pass. The two-point conversion was successful, trimming the Eagle lead to 48-14. Rylan Roberts scored from two yards out. Branson Miller scored the two-point conversion for a 56-14 lead after three periods of play.
Rylan Roberts put Knox County ahead by 50 points with a six yard run opening fourth quarter scoring. Branson Miller ran in the two-point conversion for a 64-14 lead. Schuyler County fired a 37 yard touchdown pass for a 64- 20 tally.
Braydon Miller returned the ensuing kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown. The two-point conversion failed, leaving the score at 70-20 in favor of Knox County. The Rams tossed a ten yard touchdown pass, trimming the Eagle lead to 70-26.
Branson Miller ran the football 31 yards for a Knox County touchdown. Holden Goucher caught a pass from Rylan Roberts for the two-point conversion, rounding out the 78-26 Knox County win.
Schuyler County was 15-46 passing for 268 yards and three touchdowns. The Rams rushed 22 times for 111 total yards. The Eagles outgained Schuyler County on the ground rushing for 269 yards as a team.
Branson Miller was 5-76 yards rushing with two touchdowns. Austin Jansen carried eight times for 31 yards. Branson Miller caught four passes for 118 yards and two scores. Braydon Miller caught a 22 yard pass.
